SWIM LESSONS

The YMCA has been teaching swim lessons for over 100 years. Although many other agencies and organizations offer swim lessons, the difference is this: The Y uses programs as a vehicle to deliver its mission, which is to put Christian priniciples into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA swim lesson program is designed to ensure students' safety, provide students with regular, progresive success, and make the learning process enjoyable.

Recently, the YMCA of the USA launched a new swim lesson program curriculum, which was fully implemented at the Central YMCA in January 2017. While the strokes have not changed, the method of delivering the curriculm has. One of the most noticable elements of the new Swim Lesson program is the names of the classes....the cute fish names have been replaced by letter stages for parent/child clasesses, and numeric stages for preschool and youth classes.

With the new format, you will see more group practice versus one-on-one practice, which allows your child more swim time (and less time waiting for a turn). You will also see more games, which have been designed to allow students to practice the skills they are learning while having fun at the same time.
